No to be confused with Rayman Raving Rabbids.

Rayman Raving Rabbids (Known as France as Rayman contre les Lapins Crétins) is the first game in the Rabbids series. The GBA version released in 2006. While the console version of this game (see Rayman Raving Rabbids[1]) was a 3D platformer turned party game, this version of the game is a 2D platformer.

Plot[]

In this handheld telling of the tale, Rayman is kidnapped by the Rabbids when trying to nap. Despite attempting to fight back, Rayman gets thrown in jail by the bunnies, getting his hands confiscated in the process. Rayman escapes captivity, where his friend, Ly the Fairy, explains the Rabbids reasons for their violence. While the Rabbids were once a peaceful race of the Glade of Dreams, constant belittling and bullying directed at them drove them underground, where they went insane and planned revenge. Rayman then has to travel through the Glade, in order to stop the bunnies’ conquest.

Gameplay[]

The game features 5 different worlds, as well as a variety of costumes that Rayman can utilize for special abilities.

Trivia[]

  • The handheld version of Rayman Raving Rabbids is the only version to have recurring characters from the Rayman series, aside from the titular character.
  • This version of the game is also the only version that keeps the Gangster outfit’s unique body shape, as seen in promotional material.
  • This is the only version to have the Rabbids speak English, although it is unknown why this creative decision was made.
  • The environments and costume abilities are adapted from a cancelled version of Rayman 4, developed by Phoenix Interactive.
  • This is the only version of the game that gives the Rabbids a reasoning for threatening peace in their home.
  • The character Pink, despite not appearing throughout most of the game, does take an appearance unique from his console counterpart, bearing a short tempered attitude and an eyepatch. The differing appearance is nothing out of the ordinary for Pink’s character, as his appearance changed drastically throughout the development of the Ray Raving Rabbids as a whole, and can be witnessed through the Rayman 4 prototype, as well as various promotional material.
