Professor Barranco is a minor character that appears in the first Rayman Raving Rabbids as a supporting character. He is an injured Rabbid who has a black eye and bandages on his head and clones himself sometime after Rayman escapes.

Appearances[]

Rayman Raving Rabbids[]

He first appears in Bunnies have a soft spot for plungers, where he is running towards some Rabbids who are preparing another Rabbid in order to launch him with a rocket. Suddenly the rocket flies away killing those Rabbids and Professor Barranco, the player can shoot Barranco if they want but this changes nothing.

He appears in all 3 parts of Bunnies are slow to react, where he is one of the 3 Rabbids standing in what seems to be a void. If the player does not manage to guide the ball through the brain's labyrinth before 30 seconds or the ball falls, Rabbid #1 is confused because Rabbid #2 does not feel any pain, so he ends up smashing Barranco's head with the spiky bat, causing him to spin. If the player is able to win the mini-game before 30 seconds, Rabbid #2 screams of pain and beats Rabbid #1 in the head with the spiky bat until he ends up buried in the ground. Barranco witnesses all of this, but in order to not end up like him, he just continues standing. If the player wins the mini-game in much less time than normal, in the final cutscene, Barranco will get closer to Rabbid #1's head, only to get smashed and pounded into the ground with just one hit by Rabbid #2 too, leaving only his head outside.

In Bunnies think they're in a movie, 2 Professor Barrancos appear. The first one is seen chasing a mine with the form of a ball, when the ball collides with the piano and explodes, destroying the piano and killing Barranco. The second one appears running after defeating the Cowboy Rabbids; you can shoot him if you want, but if you don't, he ends up colliding with a cardboard theater and dies again because of himself.

In both parts of Bunnies have no memory, Professor Barranco is one of the Rabbids whose sound pattern you must memorize in order to win. In the first part, he appears standing up on a stool. In the second part, the lower half of his body is buried in the beach sand. The sound he makes is some kind of scream. If you follow the wrong pattern or the camera battery runs out, he gets mad at you along with the other Rabbids, but you can still win if you got at least 40 points.

In Bunnies don't rest in peace, when a Rabbid in a UFO is attacking you, Barranco is hiding behind a tomb. Once you destroy the tomb, he is visible and you can either shoot him or grab him.

In Bunnies can't play soccer, Barranco is the referee of the soccer match and in the intro he appears blowing his whistle while standing near the ball. When Rayman runs and is about to kick the ball, he kicks Barranco instead, with enough strength to send him flying away like an actual ball. Now the player must direct Barranco to either the net or the mast of the bow while avoiding the Big Bunny who plays as an archer. The number of points depends on where you made him land and you win after earning at least 2000 points. If the player doesn't press the button while Rayman is about to kick the ''ball'' he will kick Barranco but it won't send him very far. If the Big Bunny saves the goal, he will send Barranco flying away to the place from which he came, and if it is in the third round, he ends up hitting Rayman's face, causing him to become dizzy and faint.

He reappears as the antagonist in Bunnies are not ostriches, where Rayman's objective is to unearth all 10 Super-Bunnies, but Barranco tries to prevent this by running and placing himself above Rayman's grappling hook. If Rayman grabs Barranco instead, this will cause him to lose time. If you are able to make it before 1 minute, you win.

In Bunnies aren't afraid of the dark, 2 Professor Barrancos appear again. The first one is running in circles through some bombs, until he collides with the bomb and instantly dies. However, Rayman can prevent this if he shoots the bombs, causing them to explode and ''saving'' the first Barranco. The second one appears during the final battle, where, again, he only runs near Rayman while he is fighting Pink and other Rabbids.

He appears for the last time in the credits of the game, where he is seen dancing to ''La Bamba'' and ''Girls Just Wanna Have Fun'' along with the other Rabbids.

Rayman Raving Rabbids 2[]

Barranco's head bandage appears as a costume in the second game, in the intro of the minigame: Snake Charmer, a Rabbid who looks very similar to Barranco because of the bandage on his head appears, and starts playing the flute to wake up a Snake in a basket.

Personality[]

Professor Barranco seems to be much younger than the other Rabbids. This can be proven by his short height and high pitched voice. The only time where Professor Barranco is the main antagonist is in the mini game: Bunnies don't do ostriches, where he follows Rayman around while he's pulling the super bunnies from the ground. Professor Barranco is the Rabbid that is mistreated the most in the first game, as he is blown up by a booby trapped gift, stepped on by Serguei in Bunnies have no memory part 2, and constantly wacked on the head in Bunnies are oversensitive. He is always being pushed around and being bullied by other Rabbids. Before he was beaten up he appeared in The Making Of Rayman Raving Rabbids Videos. Where he was testing on humans, to see if the minigames worked.

Trivia[]

  • If Barranco 1 is indeed younger than the rest, than it is logical that Professor Barranco 3 was born after Rayman raving rabbids 1 and before 2, which means that the length of time of those two games takes many years.
  • In the Artworks In Rayman Raving Rabbids, in The part show the early version of Bunnies Are Slow To React, a Rabbid Was Going To hit his Head with a Spike Sword at the end, But is was Cut for Unknown reasons.
  • He can be considered one of the most innocent Rabbids, as he (with the exception of one mini-game) never really antagonizes Rayman and never tries to attack him in the shooting mini-games.
